New Year - Henry Rollins

Recently I have neglected the blog a bit as I have been pretty busy with lots of different projects and posted most of my stuff on FB and Behance. Still, as the new year started two weeks ago, maybe I should turn over a new leaf and try to keep this thing more or less up to date. Don't know if this New Year's resolution will work but I'll try (in fact it does not matter so much as the end of the world is coming this year:)

Architektura Cover

Another piece which I should've posted quite a while ago. The portrayed people are Malgorzata Pizio-Domicz and Antoni Domicz who designed the Center of Art Education in Opole. I decided to incorporate some of the building's interior into the cover design (you can see the photos of the Art Centre on the architects' website here). As usually, I drew everything with 0,3 mechanical pencil in A3+ format.

The nice thing about this cover was the fact that I could apply the selective transparent varnish which I used to hignlight the glass-covered building (photo below).

Good 50x70 - Tiger is Dead

"I used to believe in forever, but forever is too good to be true," said Winnie-the-Pooh one day and though this quote did not refer to tigers, I believe that it perfectly illustrates what might happen to those animals soon. Therefore, I came up with the idea of creating a piece which would look like a new Pooh movie poster because I believe that using strong images might attract people's attention and make them think about social issues for a while. I did this poster for this year's Good 50x70 (the brief endorsed by WWF was about raising attention to wild tiger population decline). The piece has not been chosen by the jury but I quite like it so I thought I would post it here.

Stripdagen - De Kampensche School

Last week two of my works were exhibited at the show which was a part of Stripdagen in Haarlem, Holland. As this year's main theme of the comic book days was the former USSR and the surrounding Eastern-European nations, I was invited to show two of my works there. The idea of the project organized by De Kampensche School was to lock themselves in the Nieuwe Vide artspace and create pieces based on the works of the invited artists as well as other Eastern European items.

W ostatni weekend dwie moje prace zostały pokazane na wystawie będącej częścią holenderskich dni komiksu Stripdagen w Haarlem. W związku z tym, że tematem przewodnim imprezy było ZSSR i kraje bloku wschodniego, zaproszono mnie do pokazania swoich prac. Wystawa została zorganizowana przez grupę artystyczną De Kampensche School, która przez kilka dni zamknięta w przestrzeni artystycznej Nieuwe Vide tworzyła prace inspirowane ilustracjami zaproszonych twórców, jak również wszystkim tym, co wschodnioeuropejskie.

Przekrój - Suicide

The illustration for the article about the last 24 hours of a person who wants to commit suicide. Interesting idea...
The funny thing about creating this work was that I was given only 16 hours to do that and therefore it turned out to be a really challenging task. In fact, I hardly slept that night.

Wysokie Obcasy - Mum, Lift Up The Blanket

Illustrations and cover published today in Gazeta Wyborcza's Wysokie Obcasy. The illustrated interview was given by Halszka Opfer who has recently published an autobiographical book in which she describes how she was abused as a child. She tells the story of her life in which there was no one who could prevent her father from harassing her and then, when she grew up to be a mother herself - her daughter. She discloses her relationship with her mother who witnessed everything and did nothing.

Artykuł, a właściwie wywiad przeprowadzony przez Katarzynę Surmiak-Domańską z Halszką Opfer opowiada historię kobiety, która jako dziewczynka molestowana była przez swojego ojca, który wiele lat później także wykorzystywał seksualnie jej córkę. W wywiadzie opowiada ona o stosunkach panujących w rodzinie i jej relacji z matką, która była biernym świadkiem tych wydarzeń.

Duzy Format - Babykiller

.. The illustration published in Gazeta Wyborcza. The illustrated article entitled "And I stopped being human" was about a woman who had killed five of her newborn babies and later put them into a barrel. It was a shocking interview in which she described how and why she commited all the crimes.
